Hi, I’m Lisa.
I don’t know where to begin to tell you about myself. So, I’m just going to start with the reason why I started this blog.
Divorce.
At 56 years old, and after 36 years of marriage, divorce has brought me here. Here to the world of solo travel.
It’s a world I never thought I’d be in, but you know what? I absolutely love it!
I wasn’t too sure what my life was going to look like post-divorce. (And I still don’t) But I knew I wasn’t going to let going solo keep me from traveling.
So, a couple of weeks after I filed for divorce, I booked my first solo trip. I needed to prove to myself that I can still travel…and travel solo!
Two months later I was in Switzerland having the time of my life!
Through adventure, laughter, and tears…that first solo trip brought me joy, peace, and healing. And I returned home with a new-found confidence, ready for whatever this new life looks like.
Now I want to inspire other women to do the same. Well, not the divorce part, but the travel on your own part!
How I travel
My day-to-day life is not filled with globetrotting adventures to far-off places, and I don’t work remotely. No matter how much I wish that were true, I’m not at that point yet.
I live in Florida, in the US and have a typical 9 to 5 job as an administrative assistant in a school. I’ve worked in education for about 30 years now and, while the hours can’t be beat, I can’t say the same for the salary.
So, my travels mainly revolve around school vacations limited PTO, and a tight budget.
While I try to maximize every dollar I spend, I also don’t mind splurging on a bucket-list worthy experience either.
To help me stretch my budget and afford travel like I never thought I could, I do a little travel hacking and take advantage of Credit card points and miles. I pretty much consider the points and miles as my travel savings account. It really is amazing how quickly the points all add up with just normal spending.
So, there you have it – a little bit about me. I know, it really is a little bit. I’m sorry about that. I promise that I’ll come back and add more to my story as I figure this blogging thing out.
In the meantime, cheers to the boundless possibilities that await as I navigate my new world with a renewed sense of independence and joy.
In life and in travel, I am…Confidently Solo!
