When my son moved to Indonesia to teach, I figured I would visit him once a year. At the time, I had never traveled to Southeast Asia, and honestly, it wasn’t a part of the world I had on my travel wish list, especially as a solo traveler. I was hesitant.
Well, the “visit once a year” plan didn’t exactly work out.
I ended up visiting three times in one year.
Yep, three trips to Indonesia, plus a couple of side trips to Thailand, all within his first 11 months there.
Needless to say, I completely changed my mind. Southeast Asia pulled me in fast, and now I love traveling there.
Along the way, I found a handful of travel apps that made getting around, booking transportation, finding places to stay, and handling everyday travel details much easier.
These are the travel apps for Southeast Asia that I keep coming back to.
Apps for Traveling in Southeast Asia
Travel apps have completely changed the way we travel. For solo travelers especially, they can make things feel simpler and more manageable.
Transportation apps can help you track rides in real time and share trip details. Booking apps make it easier to read reviews and compare accommodations before choosing where to stay. Others help with language barriers, transportation schedules, and finding your way around a new city.
The key is downloading them before your trip and getting familiar with them before you need them. If you’re still organizing flights, accommodations, and the details before you leave, check out my guide on planning a trip so you can get everything sorted before travel day.
So, in no particular order, here are my 10 favorite Southeast Asia travel apps:
1. Klook
Use For: Hotels, Flights, Trains, Airport Transfers, Activities
Klook is one of my favorite all-in-one travel booking platforms. It has everything from attraction tickets and transportation to tours and airport transfers. Since it works closely with local operators throughout Southeast Asia, you’ll often find good prices and convenient options.
2. Agoda
Use For: Hotels, Flights, Trains, Airport Transfers, Activities
Agoda has a huge presence across Asia, which means you can usually find a wide range of accommodations at competitive prices. I often notice more local hotel options here than on some other booking platforms.
3. Traveloka
Use For: Hotels, Flights, Trains, Airport Transfers, Activities
Traveloka is a Southeast Asia based travel app that brings together flights, hotels, transportation, attractions, and more. It works particularly well for local bookings within the region.
4. Grab
Use For: Transportation, Food Delivery
Think of Grab as Southeast Asia’s version of Uber. I use it for rides and occasionally food delivery, and it has become one of the first apps I open after landing. It’s like using Uber in the United States.
5. Booking.com
Use For: Hotels, Flights
Booking.com offers a large selection of accommodations worldwide and gives you lots of filtering options when comparing places to stay.
6. GetYourGuide
Use For: Activities, Tours
GetYourGuide is a popular platform for discovering and booking unique travel experiences, tours, and activities around the world.
7. 12Go Asia
Use For: Buses, Trains, Flights
12Go Asia makes booking transportation around Southeast Asia much easier. It’s especially useful when you’re moving between cities or countries.
8. Bluebird (Indonesia only)
Use For: Taxi
Bluebird is the only taxi I recommend in Indonesia. Don’t get tricked into using any other taxi.
9. Google Maps
Google Maps is essential. Beyond directions, I use it to save locations, find restaurants, and navigate public transportation.
10. Google Translate
Google Translate is one of those apps I open constantly when traveling. Downloading languages for offline use can be especially helpful.

Downloading the best travel apps for Southeast Asia can make a big difference in your travels. Just remember to download them ahead of time and familiarize yourself with their features before you go.
From booking accommodations and activities to navigating cities and communicating with locals, these apps will have you going Confidently Solo every step of the way!
Resources to Book Your Trip
Book Flights
I like using Skyscanner to find flight deals. It searches hundreds of airlines and booking sites so you can compare prices, dates, and even airports in one place.
Book Stay
Booking.com is my go-to for hotels, guesthouses, and apartments. I like that you can filter for free cancellation and check reviews before you book.
Plan Activities
For tours and experiences, I recommend GetYourGuide and Viator. Both have everything from walking tours to day trips, plus instant booking and mobile tickets.
Stay Connected
I use Airalo for internet access when I travel. You can install the eSIM on your phone before you even leave home and there’s no need to swap physical SIM cards. Use code LISA41639 for $3.00 off your first eSIM.
To/From Airport
Welcome Pickups is a pre-booked airport transfer service with fixed pricing and a meet-and-greet driver. It’s an easy option for getting from the airport to your hotel without figuring out transport after a long flight.
Protect Trip
SafetyWing offers flexible travel insurance with coverage for medical emergencies, delays, and baggage. It’s worth comparing plans and checking exclusions before booking.

Thank you so much. Great Tips. One thing that also helped us save money while being there was this app – ATM Fee Saver – the app shows ATMs around with no fees for withdrawing money. It’s super helpful for saving money while traveling. Can recommend it 🙂
Thank you! That app sounds super helpful. I’ll have to check it out!
